The Crucible by Arthur Miller is an analogy; likening a political situation to a religious witch hunt. Being an analogy it explains or clarifies a particular subjective perspective. ABC News Breakfast presenters discussing Japanese culture forced me to ponder my own view and the ripple effect this creates. Outcome 2 of VCE English requires you to ponder this concept of correlation and dispersion.
A rose by any other name...VCE English Outcome 3 is designed to help young people understand using language to persuade; as we are persuaded by our community and environment, as we are persuaded by words and images and how we can then understand how to persuade others. To be persuasive you must be objective, and to be objective you must be able to consider both sides of an issue equally; a difficult concept when the issue is emotive.
MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD...“I won't give you the gift of hating you” – Antoine Leiris is relevant to VCE English Outcome 2 through the focus on Identity & Belonging...it is also relevant to Outcome 3 Using Language to Persuade as it is simply so powerful...so emotive, and the most eloquent and beautiful response to pain and violence I have ever seen...
